Uncommon Ways To Boost Your Metabolism

Did you know you can change your metabolism? Many people believe they’re stuck with the metabolism they were born with, but that’s thankfully not the case. Your metabolism changes throughout your life, depending on your activity level, your weight and your age.
This means you can tweak things in your life to make your metabolism turn into a fat burning machine!
Try these 5 easy tips to kick your metabolism up a notch:

1. Do What You Love
Some exercises are quicker to torch calories than others, but the only workouts that matter are the ones you choose to do. Have you ever tried to force a gym session and it felt like torture to get through? It’s hard to keep up a habit if your heart’s not in it. Start doing more activities you love, whether it’s hiking, riding your bike, or dancing — and you’ll be more likely to stick with the program and see changes.

2. Drink Green Tea
According to a study in the Journal of Clinical Nutrition, drinking unsweetened, brewed green tea was shown to increase calorie burn and reduce abdominal fat. Just make sure to opt for brewed instead of bottled so you get the full benefit without any added sweeteners.

3. Eat this Trio
Aim to include lean protein, healthy fats and good carbs (whole grains, fruit and veggies) at every meal. You will feel more satisfied and have fewer cravings. Eating the right food at the right times (5-6 small meals a day) will keep your metabolism stable instead of spiking and crashing. Try a breakfast of oatmeal sprinkled with almonds and Greek yogurt on the side to jump-start your day.

4. Add Muscle
Muscles torch calories and fat. Adding some muscle onto your frame doesn’t mean you have to look like a bodybuilder; a few pounds of lean muscle will increase your metabolism and incinerate fat. A study found that one pound of extra muscle could burn 30-50 more calories each day.

5. Enjoy Your Wine
We’ve always heard that drinking alcohol slows the metabolism, but there is an exception: Laura Ryan, M.D. says, “As for the wine, red contains resveratrol, which research shows may help you better metabolize the sugar you do eat.”  So if you feel the need to unwind with a drink, reach for red wine instead of a mixed drink or beer.
